Provider Preparations for Prudential Reform
What changes on 1 October 2011?
Held: Monday 12 September 2011,

The Aged Care Act has recently been
amended (Royal assent received 26 July 2011) with a Schedule of changes
headlined Permitted Use of Accommodation Bonds.
These amendments affect the overall
system of prudential regulation that authorises the Department of Health
and Ageing to regulate Approved Providers in respect of accommodation
bonds for residential aged care.
The changes to the existing system of
prudential regulation carry new sections headed:
- Obligation to give information about
ability to refund accommodation
- bond balances
- Permitted use of accommodation bonds
- Offences relating to non-permitted
use of accommodation bonds
- Transitional provisions (applying to
accommodation bonds charged
- prior to commencement)
- Application provisions (Applying to
accommodation bonds charged
- after commencement)
These amendments come into effect on 1
October 2011.
